Yoshimi Arts is opening Mizuki Kakinuma’s solo exhibition, "One (Going For The One)".
Japanese creation is still built upon ancient or subconscious themes. The ambiguity between the artificial and the natural that was often expressed in ancient Japan may still be an underlying influence in the sensibility of present-day Japanese culture.
Composed of scream-like strokes, the paintings of Mizuki Kakinuma are very emotional. Since his paintings do not suggest any motifs or objects, the only visual way to understand his paintings is by their color, strokes, and texture of the paint. As if they were left one step before completion, there are blank spaces, vertical and horizontal grids, and dancing strokes that seem to be moving. By observing them for a long time, you may start to think there are meanings and messages in all those things. They look as if they were created through a poetic expression of strokes that draw inspiration from nature, unlike the Western arts that are built upon the logical history of art.
After the 2016 solo exhibition "Passion", he changed his style and began designing the layout of his canvas, incorporating lines not drawn with brushes by using materials such as masking tape and lacquer spray.
This exhibition presents his new work which is an extension of this new style, including a milestone masterpiece proving his achievement.
